Behind the Scenes

Ever wonder what really goes on in a small couture production facility?

First, Dorothy relies on inspiration from the art world, from history, from meeting interesting women and men. She'll take a concept and hand-draw artwork on her light table. It then takes form, sometimes quickly, sometimes not. After all, each piece is original. Once it meets Dorothy's strict eye of approval, she'll move it on to digital format if the artwork is for embroidery purposes. If the artwork's destination is hand-cut appliqué, the design gets transferred to hard manila paper for exacto-knife cutting of beautiful leathers, wools and cashmeres.

Patterns are created by a master tailor with over 30 years of experience and first samples are sewn by a couturier seamstress. First fittings, pattern alterations, and then final grading of the patterns before laying up high-quality fabrics Dorothy sources from around the world. Each button, each detail, is approved by Dorothy to ensure her high standards are always maintained.

Pecial orders are always available, thanks to the expert staff on Dorothy's team, who she has mentored for many years.

We are all proud to be a part of Dorothy Grant's vision.
